#4942 Winchester Model 1890 Slide-Action, First Model!!
Description:
#4942 Winchester Model 1890 Slide-Action 22RF Short, very scarce and VERY desirable 1st Model with the non-takedown solid frame, 88XX serial range (probably first or second year production). Totally original untouched and unmolested example of this iconic little pump gun that quickly became one of Winchesters most successful repeaters and a favorite with shooting galleries, kids, and farmers who had one in the barn for shooting rats, etc. Typically rough and heavily leaded up bore and it’s impossible to determine whether it will ever clean up to be anything close to being an accurate shooter …but considering how corrosive the early fulminate black powder cartridges were (…and how kids would never properly clean their rifles), this rifle should be considered ONLY for the collector value and not as a shooter (unless relined). The Model 1890 Winchester is probably the most highly collected and most valuable of any 22caliber rifle ever made, and this is a very decent and unaltered representation for any modest mid-range collection. VG as described. $1695
