#4994 Colt 1878
D/A 7-1/2”x44WCF with Ex.Fine++
bore (about a 9 on a scale of 10)
Description:
#4994 Colt 1878
D/A 7-1/2”x44WCF with Ex.Fine++
bore (about a 9 on a scale of 10) and Excellent smooth action both on S/A and D/A modes, 28XXX serial range and thus being made in 1891. Original factory blue is about 85-90% coverage and density varying from 10% on the cylinder to 90% on the frame and barrel; the remainder being smooth plumming blue-brown metal with no pitting whatsoever. What blue is missing is mainly flaked off; the only real wear being the back strap and the cylinder due to the old practice of cleaning by boiling the cylinder to remove the powder residue build-up. The “CFSS” roll-die barrel panel is crisp and sharp, as is the addess and serial number. The original hard rubber grips are near excellent with almost no wear. (see photos). The very often missing lanyard ring is also intact. A very, VERY decent, showy, big frame double action Colt in very near Excellent condition and becoming almost non-existant for sale at any but the largest gun shows.
