SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester. 38-40. Octagon barrel. Very Nice Bore. Here is a decent looking 1873 in the great shooting 38-40 caliber. Has the standard 24" octagon barrel. S/N 222644 and made in 1886. The bore is very nice. Still has some shine with a little very minor roughness. Strong and sharp rifling all the way through with NO rings or bulges. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds , fires and ejects perfectly. NO bulged cases or backed out primers. Head space is perfect. Both hammer notches are strong and positive. It shoots great and still very accurate. Has the original front and rear sights. Has the original dust cover that is still tight and still retracts with the lever throw. The over all metal is good with no pitting but for a very small spot at the front of the barrel address. It is just very light and minor peppering and nothing deep or detracting as the photo shows. The metal is a medium brown to gray patina that does not look like it has ever been cleaned on or messed with. Just shows honest wear. The screw heads are all sharp but for the right forearm cap screw that is burred up. The markings are good but for the light first part of the barrel address. I pulled the photo shot on the S/N but it is clear and all readable. The wood is good but as you can see, some ole cowboy just had to carve his initials in the left side of the butt stock !!! Looks like it was done the day it was made. Very tastefully done I might say and lots of character. The butt stock fits tight to the metal with no splits or cracks but shows a wear spot on the right side by the receiver. It is not cracked or chips missing. It just looks like honest wear. There are a few tiny specks of green paint that comes off with your finger nail on the butt stock and I will remove them before selling. The forearm is good with no issues. NO splits or cracks and just shows some honest dings and scratches. This ole 73 shows honest wear but no abuse but for the stock carving. It has a great bore so if you are looking for a great shooter for less than $2000, this is the gun for you. Just a very honestly used ole 73 that is all correct and never messed with. Shows a lot of history and not a bad looking gun at all for the money. $50 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos of a certain area you want to see.
