Antique 1889 Marlin. 95% Barrel Blue. Near Mint Bore.
Description: SOLD.. Outstanding antique 1889 Marlin, 95% barrel blue, octagon barrel, 38-40 , near mint bore. Here is a beautiful antique Marlin model 1889. Has the standard 24" octagon barrel and in my favorite and excellent shooting 38-40 caliber. The bore is very near mint. Bright and shiny with just a tad bit of darkness in the groves in a few places with NO rings or bulges. With more shooting and cleaning should clean up even better. S/N is 99924 and made in 1894.. The barrel has 95% very bright and deep blue remaining. Just thinning out on the edges from a little honest wear. It is NOT turning plumb, it is deep bright blue !!! The up close photo of the barrel address shows how nice the blue is on the barrel. The whole barrel looks like this but for the slight edge thinning I mentioned. Has some very light rack dings on the barrel flats on both sides just in front of the rear sight as you hopefully can see in the photos. If not, I will be glad to send you as many photos as you need of this wonderful ole Marlin. The best 1889 Marlin I have ever offered for sale. The mag tube has about 25% or so bright blue that is thinning slightly but still blue in color.. The receiver has about 10% to 15% thinning blue. The bolt still has 50% to 60% blue as does the loading gate. The balance of the metal on the receiver is a smooth untouched medium brown to gray patina. The lever shows case colors when opened in the protected areas. NO pitting anywhere on this gun. Has a few minor spots of very light surface crude but other than that, it is in excellent condition. All markings are excellent. The mechanics are excellent and like new !!! This gun feeds, fires and ejects like a new gun !!! It shoots excellent and is super accurate... Excellent hammer notches on this one and this is rare as most every one of these 1889's I have had needed the hammer notches repaired. These are excellent and never messed with. Screw heads are sharp and some still showing some blue also. Original front and rear sights with the front sight being the “Rocky Mountain “ blade type. The wood is great also. The forearm fits very tight and proud to the metal. It does show some honest usage dings here and there but NO cracks, splits or repairs. Still shows 80% original thinning varnish. The butt stock is very nice as well. Fits perfectly tight to the metal all around. Shows a few honest handling bumps and bruises but NO cracks, splits or repairs. Still shows 80% + original varnish. If you need more photos of this gun please let me know. I can only list 12 in my category. You will not be disappointed with this one. This is an outstanding 1889 with the barrel finish, the bore condition and the mechanics. It is not priced cheap. I like it very much and don’t mind keeping it for 10 more years as it shoots like a new gun and I love to shoot the 38-40. $50 insured double boxed shipping.
