Antique British Lee-Enfield Mk. I/ SMLE Training Rifle Conversion
Description: Serial #A779, .22 LR, 25" sleeved barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a touch of freckling within the grooves. This is an 1897 dated rifle that began life as a long Lee-Enfield but has since been converted to an SMLE pattern rimfire trainer. The metal has a mixed patina of blue and plum-brown on the metal with some scattered spots of mild freckling as well as some fading along the edges and projections. The No. 2 bolt is mostly a medium pewter gray color, the volley sight has been removed, and there is a "DP" stamp on the underside of the nosecap. The walnut stock, forend, and handguards have an armory-added oil finish over numerous small handling marks and surface blemishes with filled stock disk inletting on the right side of the butt and what looks like the ghost of a plaque that was once affixed to the right. The wood to metal fit around the buttstock is not perfect. The metal is a little proud. A magazine housing is included (no follower or spring), tan canvas sling is installed, and the original cut-off is still in place. This is a very nice rimfire trainer conversion in fine condition.
