Antique Chilean Model 1895 Navy Rifle by Loewe
Description: Serial #D8474, 7mm Mauser, 29 1/5” barrel with a very good bore that has light freckling and pitting along its length. This rifle has a rare, naval marked specimen that has both a matching bolt and stock. The metal has an overall smoothly mottled plum-brown patina mixing with gray and exhibits some silvering at the muzzle and on some of th high edges and projections. The Chilean national crest is partially visible on the receiver ring and there are traces of original blue on the rear portion of the receiver, while the bolt has been polished to bright throughout, and the floorplate has been cleaned to gray. The walnut stock has a series of handling marks and bruises along its length with a vacant through-hole just behind the nosecap, naval crest on the left side of the buttstock, large “11” rack stamp on the right with a faintly visible marking towards the buttplate that looks to have been intentionally “scrubbed” by the armory. The rifle is missing its cleaning rod, but does come with an original brown leather military sling and is an interesting, seldom seen naval rifle in good plus-very good condition.
