• Artemus Leonard was a gunsmith in Saxtons River Vermont from 1840 to 1860
• Side locks made by Warren & Steele from Albany NY (circa 1840)
• This gun came from a family who's great, great grandfather was a sharp shooter for Colonel Berdan. He was private Charles Lucier from Company F, 1st USSS & 2nd USSS Company E & 4th Vermont Infantry Company G
• Same style gun as the Winslow Homer's painting of the sharpshooter on Picket duty

• Walnut wood half stock is in great condition

• Barrel has a concealed hooked breech and fitted with a percussion drum & nipple
• Hooded post front sight
• Includes rare 3 piece false muzzle with plunger. 4 dowels fit into holes bored in the flat of the muzzle. These fit perfectly and have a tab that blocks your sight so you can tell that the false muzzle needs to be removed before shooting. Secondary use is to protect end of muzzle
• Plunger starter is a mechanical version of a "short starter" that precisely matched to the bore and false muzzle
