British Enfield .577 Snider caliber carbine. Snider conversion Enfield. This was a British Military carbine originally and was sold on contract to the Portuguese Army (cavalry) in the early 1880’s. Lock is dated 1870. Another indicator of Portuguese use is that the breech end of the barrel has a property number and the word “Steel” on the opposite side. This appears only on Portuguese guns. Bore is excellent. Metal parts are very good plus. Stock is very good also. A nice carbine.
