British New Land Pattern Type Flintlock Pistol by Brander & Potts
Description: NSN, .65 caliber, 9” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has only some mild freckling along its length. This is an attractive pistol that has a pleasant bright gray patina on the barrel, captive ramrod, and lock. The lock is marked with a small “B&P” under the iron pan, and “BRANDER/& POTTS/LONDON” just ahead of the cock, and there are scattered areas of mild freckling with slightly heavier pinprick pitting present on and around the pan, jaws, and frizzen. The ramrod is original, but held in place by a non-original period screw that is a bit too long for the swivel. The straight grained wooden stock has been lightly sanded and has a re-applied varnish finish over light handling marks and minor bruises including a small repair at the rear of the sideplate which itself looks to be either a newer replacement or to have been buffed and heavily cleaned at some point. The remaining brass fixtures have a mild yellow-ochre patina with scattered dull spots and Indian service unit markings on the trigger guard bow: “R4/A/45”. The mechanism is still tight and functions flawlessly. This is a handsome British-made flintlock pistol, used in colonial service, and is in very good plus condition overall.
