British Pattern 1853 Musket by Tower (2nd Class)
Description: NSN, .577 caliber, 39? barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves at the muzzle. This is an 1854 dated, Tower-made musket that has an overall dark plum-brown patina with areas of deep pitting running along the length of the barrel (heaviest near the muzzle), on the rear sight, and on the hammer and edges of the lockplate. The trigger guard tang has a dark green patina that turns to yellow-ochre on the bow. The walnut stock is in about good shape with numerous handling marks and small blemishes along its entire length but the Pimlico and ?2? stamps on the right side of the butt are still quite crisp. The musket has a further ?308? on the left side of the butt and comes with an original, matching condition iron ramrod. The mechanism is fully functional and this is a rare 2nd Class marked Enfield musket that is in about good condition overall.
