C.G. Haenel K.K. Sport .22 LR
Description:
As you look around, a few of these Haenel K.K. Sport rifles appear from time to time on the web. But few of them can rival this one. Configured as a sporting rifle, it features everything you expect, a capped-pistol-grip stock with a widow's peak steel buttplate. The fore end features a prominent schnabel and both ends of the rifle are fitted with traditional sling eyes. But the more you look at this rifle, the more you notice the differences. Take, for example, the receiver - this one is highly engraved with oak leaf borders and game-scene vignettes - a rabbit on one side and a squirrel on the other, the action bottom decorated with a hand engraved hash mark pattern with a floral vignette in the center. The breech block is highly jewelled and the trigger hand checkered. Like so many Germanic rifles, the octagonal barrel sports a hand-cut top rib, but this one widens to form a quarter rib/base for the rear sight, and someone had a set of Weaver-style steel rings specially machined to fit this rib as well, allowing the mounting of any one-inch-tubed scope. Behind the breech block is a covered recepticle for a peep sight - the one piece missing from this rifle. And just so you have the details covered, on the bottom of the fore end, there is a protruding knurled knob. Unscrew this know and you have a screwdriver that just happens to fit the screws on this rifle. Altogether, this is one very neat little rifle.
