COLT "CUSTER ERA" Artillery -
Serial #5256
Description: Colt "custer range" serial #5256 Artillery ( Price Rduced ) The frame of this Custer range artillery was from Lot #5. Quoting Kopec, "This revolvers frame was manufactured as the principal component of a U.S. Cavalry revolver during 1874. The Ordnance Sub-Inspector was O.W. Ainsworth". "There is no question that revolver #5256 had served with the U.S. Cavalry during the indian wars period." Lot #5 was one of the prime lots from which revolvers were issued to the 7th Cavalry under Custer. This particular revolver is mentioned in Kopecs book "Cavalry and Artillery Revolvers" on page 271, as an extant revolver from lot #5. Historically, this revolvers serial number is listed in the National Archives, as being re-issued during 1898. It is Kopec"s opinion that revolver #5256 was among those refurbished at the Springfield Armory during 1898 and then immediately issued to "Company B, 6th USV Infantry." This Custer range artillery comes with a 3 page Kopec letter. And other documentation of the re-issue to Company B, 6th USV. There will be a 3 day inspection period if you're not satisfied, but all I ask is that you inform me right away if you have an intent to return the gun. Over the years I have had 7 Custer era Artillery Colts, this one is the best with the most history. Shipping will be by USPS registered mail at a cost to you of $50. ...You can't help but to like this gun... and it's in great condition for it's age. SOLD Antique: Yes |
