Charles Boswell 12 Bore Bar Action Pigeon Hammergun with Damascus Barrels
Description: SOLD *** This desirable pigeon hammergun from one of the great English gunmakers is in very good mechanical condition and is covered with well executed Best Engraving. Boswell was known as one of the top pigeon gun makers at the time. This gun has side clips, a third fastener, and 28” Damascus barrels with extractors. When cocked the hammers are below the shooter's line of sight. It was made in the mid 1890’s and weighs 7lb 6oz. *** The 28” Damascus extractor barrels are chambered for 2-1/2” cartridges and are topped with a hand filed broad pigeon style rib. The bores are bright but the browning shows noticeable wear. The rib is marked “Charles Boswell Maker 126 Strand London WI”. The left barrel is bored 0.741 with a constriction of 0.016 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.029. The right barrel is bored 0.739 with a constriction of 0.010 for Improved Cylinder or Half choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.029. It has London black powder proofs but can be safely shot with appropriate low pressure ammunition from RST. *** The well figured stock has a swept back Prince of Wales pistol grip and splinter forearm. Stock dimensions are 14-3/8” by 1-3/8” by 2-1/16”. Cast off for the right hand shot. The checkering shows wear and needs to be refreshed by the new owner. *** Cased in a period leather case with maker’s label. The case shows wear but the two outside straps have been replaced. The carrying handle needs repair. *** This is a sturdy example of a shootable Victorian era pigeon gun that is beautifully engraved and handles well. A small investment in refurbishing the appearance by rebrowning the barrels and re-cutting the checkering would make this a stunning piece to own and shoot. A great price! *** Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance, and any other related charges. I give a 3-day non-firing inspection period and will only accept returns at buyer’s expense if the gun is not as described in the listing. SOLD Antique: Yes |
