Colt 1851 Navy Pre Civil War All Matching.
Description:
SOLD..Original 1851 Colt Navy revolver. .36 caliber with 7 ½" octagon barrel. Here is another revolver I am selling for a friend. S/N 86042 and all matching including the arbor pin and the rammer. The wedge which is an original Colt wedge has no number on it. Gun was made in 1858 so it is a pre Civil War Navy. The mechanics are very good but the cylinder locking bolt engages at the half cock. It indexes all the way and locks up with a little play. Has a rock solid barrel to frame fit with no wobbles. The barrel still fits tight to the frame even with the wedge removed.. The nipples have been replaced with new ones and they are in great condition. The bore has rifling and normal roughness from black powder. Should clean up a little better and the chambers should clean up a little also. I have not soaked the bore or chambers to clean them. Barrel address is readable {see photo} with excellent COLT’S PAT. on frame. The over all metal condition is a deep dark brown patina that has never been cleaned on or messed with. The muzzle shows wear from bouncing around in a holster on horse back so this gun was carried and used. The front sight is worn down completely from holster wear also. This gun is full of history. Has some minor surface crud and some very minor pin prick spots of roughness but no bad pitting that detracts from this gun. The wedge screw is chipped out on one side {see photo}. The rear of the barrel has a period of use and very small sight installed. It absolutely has been done probably since the gun was near new as it blends with the barrel patina so well it really does not stick out or detract that much but it is there and must be mentioned for an accurate description. The brass trigger guard and back strap show a nice mellow medium patina and not polished bright like some you will see. The original to the gun grips are very good and a perfect factory fit and shows one small chip at the front right toe. Has never been used as a hammer as you see quite a bit on guns in this condition. Still has traces of original varnish. All in all this is an honest 51 Colt Navy that won’t break your bank account and still functions and with a little work on the cylinder locking bolt could still be used today. Would display excellent with an old holster from the period. It is what it is and priced reasonable. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $20 insured shipping.
