Colt Round Barrel Baby Dragoon .31 Caliber Pistol
Description: RAREST of the RARE --One of the Rarest Colt Revolver's of the Era! The Colt Round-Barrel/"Baby Dragoon Pocket" .31 Cal. Revolver, All-Matching Serial #'s 66027 (including wedge!) The Enigmatic mid-1850's Production Extremely Rare seen Specimen-- Only a handful of documented specimens 100% Complete, Original, Fully-Functional, Good Barrel Markings There's only around 25 documented specimens, ALL around the 50,000 to 60,000 serial range, and almost all (like this one) with the 5" barrel. It's clearly in the serial range for the Colt Model 1849 "Pocket" .31 caliber revolvers, and is a .31 caliber specimen in every way--with the classic two-line New York address atop the angled-edged frame....but that round narrel clearly is NOT like any Model 1849 Colt "Pocket" revolver! Thus, these have been dubbed as "Baby Dragoon Pocket Revolvers" or just simply the "Round-barrelled /49'er". Some of them--Just like this one--have the "2" above the serial number underneath, denoting that it was made with as with a "set" or "pair". Some theorize these were a special trial or Sam Colt's handiwork to make for some special "gifts". Obviously being not like the Model 1849 with complete octagonal barrel, NOR like the Model 1851 "Navy" .36 caliber being the same, ONLY the "Dragoon" series of revolvers show the round-barrel with the last inch or so being "angled" by the breech. It's a total mystery. But they are as real as ever! And this one is a beauty! All matching serial numbers 66027--including the wedge!--and is FULLY-FUNCTIONAL, COMPLETE, and absolutely beautiful with the most gorgeous rich, deep-dark chocolate brown patina all over the metal surfaces. Purchased from my great friend and Civil War expert John Spicer of Champion Hill relics. Buyer will receive letter of purchase I received from him. Here's a killer pre-war that is one of the rarest and most enigmatic Colt revolver ever! Compare prices! You will not find a better price on this rare Civil War gun. Buyer pays shipping and insurance. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
