EAL Survival Rifle No. 4 Mk. I* Canadian Air Force
Description: Serial #1375, .303 British, 21” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This late 1950's era rifle was manufactured by Essential Agencies Ltd. by using a Long Branch No. 4 receiver and fitting a Canadian Arsenals sporter type barrel. The metal retains 95-97% of the original blue finish that has silvered at the muzzle, along the exposed edges, and on the bearing surfaces of the bolt which has a small amount of mild freckling on the knob. The flip-up “L” type aperture rear sight is mated to a sporting front blade on a ramped base and there are large “C/A” (Canadian Arsenals Ltd.) markings on the knox form and also a small and unobtrusive import stamp under the barrel just ahead of the forend. The walnut sporter-style forend and pistol grip buttstock are in excellent condition with scattered minor handling marks and small blemishes in the original oil finish throughout. The original Jostam red rubber recoil pad is also in fine shape (lightly used but still serviceable) and a single unmarked 10 rd. magazine is included. These rifles were made both for commercial and government use and according to Skennerton's book this example falls slightly outside what is generally considered the civilian block (#2000-#3000). Additionally, these rifles were also issued to RCAF, DEW Line, and Canadian Ranger personnel as a polar survival gun. These rifles are almost never seen in the U.S. and this example is in fine-near excellent overall condition. {Ref. “The Lee-Enfield A Century of Lee-Metford & Lee-Enfield Rifles & Carbines” by Ian Skennerton; 2007} FFL or C&R SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Manufacturer: EAL Model: No.4 Serial Number: 1375 Caliber Info: .303 Gauge Info: .303 |
