Gettysburg cane
Description: Gettysburg cane, all original and in fine condition just as it was gathered up by some visiting GAR Veteran in the earlier years after the war. This especially nice Gettysburg souvenir cane retains its nicely-aged honey coloration and along its shaft it bears full coverage of a burned-in decorative design. The stick sports its souvenir identification with the original, bold and clearly legible markings: GETTYSBURG / JULY 1-2-3 1863 / WOOD FROM / ROUND TOP. A wonderful early post-Civil War souvenir identified to a key location of the famous battleground of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. A very fine Round Top Battlefield relic cane. Made of a hickory branch, it has a natural bark handle that is 4 1/2" long and 7/8" at its thickest point. Below it, is poker-burned pyrography. The pyrography continues down the shaft in lines and circles. It has a brass .32 rimfire cartridge ferrule. The ferrule could be a battle field pick up. The overall length is 33 1/2" and the condition is very good. It is ca 1880, and such items were often made by battlefield guides to supplement their meager veteran's pensions. Round Top is a hill that was the scene of a critical conflict between Union and Confederate forces during the July, 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. WE TAKE CREDIT CARDS, DEBIT CARDS, MONEY ORDERS, CASHIER CHECKS, OR EVEN PERSONAL CHECKS. May order at riverjunction on-line with credit cards or PayPal SOLD |
