Hinden-Fleishman Curved Barrel Extension for the M1 Carbine
Description: This rare and interesting device, very similar to the German Krumlauf experimental MP.40 and MP.44 "around-the-corner" guns of World War II, consists of of a heavy cylindrical mounting collar with integral curved, .42 caliber smoothbore barrel that bends through 45 degrees (a version with full 90 degree bend was also made). The collar is held in place with a simple mortise and spring stud locking onto the front sight base (almost identical to the catch on the Moisin-Nagant bayonet); and is marked "HF CO" on the side wall of the mortise. The metal retains 90% plus of the original parkerized finish that has some minor silvering at the muzzle as well as light scratches and wear on the sides of the barrel itself and on the thumb-piece. Scoring on the interior indicates that the adapter was used as intended at least a few times. Less than 100 of these strange accessories were manufactured during the 1960's by the Hinden-Fleishman Co. of Bala Cynwood, PA, which manufactured M1 Carbine blank-firing adapters that used an identical spring catch and mounting collar, and this example rates fine condition overall. {Ref.
