Holland and Holland, London. Magnificent “Royal” hammerless sidelock double rifle in .577 NE, made for British military officer, C. S. Timins, 15th. Regiment, and completed by Holland’s on May 8th, 1897. Weight: 11 lbs. 14 oz. Stock Dimensions: 14 5/8”x 1 3/8”x 2 5/8”x ¼” cast-off. Superb 26” steel barrels, with original 3” chambers, recessed muzzles, and absolutely mint bores, retain most of the original black finish. Barrels have a full length, file cut, top rib with a single fixed 50 yd. rear sight, two folding leaves out to 250 yds., and ramp front sight complete with the original flip-up ivory twilight bead. Incredibly strong, Jones screw-grip, under-lever action retains much of the original hardening color even on the breech face and shows little evidence of having been fired. Peerless quality Holland sidelocks are mechanically absolutely perfect and retain much of the original hardening color as well. Double triggers, bushed firing pins, and extractors. Nicely figured original walnut stock and splinter forend with crisp, unretouched, original checkering showing little evidence of use. The old Silver’s pad could be the original. This rifle was completed just at the end of the Black Powder era and was later returned to Holland and Holland for the Nitro Proofing all of which is thoroughly documented in the original correspondence with Holland’s which accompanies the gun. Also included is a copy of the regulation target from the Holland shooting range after the rifle was nitro proofed. Comes with the original leather LOM case bearing the name of the original owner along with a proper period leather hard case with Holland trade label. Overall a magnificent rifle, tight as a safe, showing little evidence of use, and a great rarity.
