Identified Colt 1862 Police to Captain KIA in Chancellorsville. Made in 1862. Nice sharp gun that was refinished long ago. Back strap is inscribed “Presented to CAPT. CHARLES E. RAND / by his Brothers T. B. & J. H. Rand”. Charles E. Rand was a Captain in Company I of the Massachusetts 1st Infantry. Capt. Rand was killed in action at the battle of Chancellorsville. Along with the gun comes his mother’s application for a pension. Chancellorsville was a major battle, and a big defeat for the Union. A very historic piece!
