Incredible French Berthier WW1 Sniper Rifle M-16 Caliber 8x50 R mm Lebel
Description: The last in the collection of five sniper rifles is the rifle used in the trenches of WW1 by the French Army. Two rifles were used for this. The first was a Lebel mounted with an Apex scope. Next, they ordered standard Winchester A-5 scopes and mounted them to their model M16 standard rifle. All of this information is confirmed in the fine book entitled " Sniping in the Great War" by Martin Pegler. The gun retains all of the arsenal blue finish and the stock is better than just about any of these I have ever seen. The builder of this collection really waited to get the best of the best before starting the project. The bore is beautiful. The Winchester A-5 has almost all the original blue with the early spring Grass Hopper mounts and is worth about $700 by itself. Has an original sling . 96644 restamped on bolt. 42820 is stamped on trigger guard. No other visible numbers. Cannot find a number on the receiver and have no idea what is under scope mount. Aside from some photographs, have never seen an original French sniping rifle. This one is all original in every respect, just that scope was added to gun but could not tell from an original. Caliber is not marked but it is chambered in 8x50Rmm SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
