JAPANESE MATCHLOCK RIFLE
Description: This rifle is of museum quality. In fact I haven't seen one as nice in any museum I have visited. There is one similar in the Victoria Albert Museum. The octogon shaped barrel is 37" long with an overall llength of 51" and a weight of just under 10 lbs. It is approximately 50 cal. The muzzle end is flaired or cannon style. Research indicates that barrels like this were made prior to 1750. This one is believed to have been made prior to 1730. There is no ramrod. The barrel may have been finished in the bright --there is no blueing visible. It is inlaid with gold and silver designs. There is an original family badge (crest) inlaid. It was made by TANAKA N. HEI of Settsu Province. The stock , believed to be rosewood., extends from the butt to the muzzle and is inlaid with numerous brass and silver decorative pieces all engraved with floral and animal designs. There are two decorated holes in the stock designed to keep the burning wick in place. Wood and metal are in excellent condition and the action is fine.. Of course, due to the type of ignition system, if it was raining they called the war off. I have owned this beautiful piece of history for many years. My advanced age dictates it's time to let someone else enjoy it now. I am selling a large collection. Antique- No FFL required. NOTE; PRICE REDUCED ! SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Tanaka N.
