JOHN RIGBY & CO., DUBLIN & LONDON HAMMER DOUBLE .450-3 ¼” BP EXPRESS
RIFLE CIRCA 1869.
Description:
JOHN RIGBY & CO., DUBLIN & LONDON HAMMER DOUBLE .450-3 ¼” BP EXPRESS RIFLE CIRCA 1869. One of the last entries listed in D.H.L. Back’s book “MESSERS RIGBY” this early rifle was made as a best quality double rifle of 52 bore with 28” barrels with Rigby 3 Leaf Express rear sight and steel blade front. Factory ledger states it was made for “G. Atkinson”. Recently brought back from Pakistan it has suffered abuse but is still very tight and has very good bright bores with Rigby Rifling. Locks in good working order. Metal re-blued overall but markings and all engraving in extremely fine condition. Stock with wrist repair and checkering lightly recut with overruns. Forend with wood repaired between the escutcheons. Right hammer ear has been broken and re-welded and the hammer screw replaced with a common screw. Barrel forend wedge block also re-welded. A restoration project but well worth doing as the basics are still in very nice order.
