Manufrance Ideal No. 6 16 Gauge SxS Shotgun
RARE, HIGHLY ENGRAVED, 5 3/4LBS
General Specs: Manufrance, Year 1924, 16 Gauge, 5lbs 13oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 52136
Manufrance Ideal is one of France's finest shotguns, with origins back to 1881 and unchanged in over 100 years of production. A true round action with 3 locks (2 Purdey style underbites, rising bite integrating with rib extension), with the same reputation for robust strength as the Dickson (circa 1880) and the MacNaughton (circa 1879) as a result of the nearly solid steel action with little metal removal for the working parts. Way stronger than the typical A & D style box lock. These guns were made from No. 0 to No.9 grades, with very few made higher than the No. 3. This gun is a gorgeous No. 6 with the addition of sideclips for lateral lock up, full coverage deep chiseled scroll and foilage engraving, the finest steel with the 5 Palms proof stamp, chopper lump barrels, fine skip-line checkering on the nicely figured French walnut stock, and the trademark retractable leather sling that disappears into the butt stock. Seeing a No. 6 in 12ga. is rare, but in 16ga. it is a true find, and surprisingly affordable compared to the Scottish guns. The Ideal is a very dynamic gun in hand and brutishly strong and robust, making it a fine upland and sporting gun that will continue to increase in value as you enjoy its use.
