Rare Tranter Model 1868 Solid Frame Revolver by E.M. Reilly & Co.
Description:
Serial #31757, .450 CF, 5” octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a few very minor spots of dark freckling along its length.
This is a very nice revolver that retains about 80-85% of the original bright blue on the barrel that has faded to gray along the edges and also has some light-moderate pinprick pitting around the muzzle.
The retailer's address on the barrel is still crisp and sharp: “E.M. REILLY & Co. 502 OXFORD St. LONDON”.
The frame has an overall mottled pewter gray patina but does retain some of the original bright blue, most noticeably on the lower right portion just ahead of the cylinder, and on the irregular-shaped sideplate.
The cylinder and loading gate have matching assembly numbers (“83”) and the pivoting ejector rod is both fully functional and locks securely in place when not in use.
The checkered walnut grip is in fine shape with only some scattered light handling marks and minor surface blemishes as well as some minor flattening of the points.
The mechanism is quite robust and functions flawlessly with tight lock-up.
This is a seldom seen early Tranter cartridge revolver and is in very good-fine condition overall.
