S&W Safety Fifth Model with World War I dedication serial # 245554, left side inscripption J. H. Mayfield from Norfolk Men Xmas 1917,
the Norfolk Men noted for their exploits at Gallipolis on August 1915
caliber on left side of barrel .38 S&W CTG., 3¼" ribbed barrel with maker's inscription and integral front sight, nickel plated, original pearl grips with deep seated medallion, good dedication on left side of frame, revolver in good working order and in excellent condition. Included is a clipping about this revolver out of the Flayderman catalog. Wikipedia: The Gallipoli Campaign, also known as the Dardanelles Campaign or the Battle of Gallipoli or the Battle of Anakkale took place at the peninsula of Gallipoli in the Ottoman Empire (now Gelibolu in modern day Turkey) between 25 April 1915 and 9 January 1916, during the First World War. A joint British and French operation was mounted to capture the Ottoman capital of Istanbul (then still referred to as 'Constantinople' by Western nations) and secure a sea route to Russia.
