SMITH & WESSON WW 1 -U.S. Army Model 1917 Revolver
Description:
This is a nice piece of American history. The GI who carried this revolver in World War 1 was killed in action in Europe. This pistol was sent to his widow- believe it or not-with 6 live cartridges in the chambers. The 6 including 2 moon clips are included in this sale. You don't often see a S & W Model 1917 offered. Apparently not that many survived. The Colt verson is common.
There is a flaming bomb proof on the left side near the hammer. The S & W name appears on the top of the barrel along with the following patent dates: Dec.17, 1901; Feb. 6, 1906; and Sep. 14, 1909. The left side of the barrel is marked: S & W DA. 45. The underside of the barrel is marked: "United States Property". Under the grip appears: U.S. Army Model 1917".
The right grip is in 98% + condition. The left grip has a few dents These walnut grips were only supplied for two years of the manufactureing period. .The top and left side of the barrel have about 90% blueing. The right and underside of the barrel have about 50% blueing. The blueing on the rest of the piece is in 95 to 98% condition. There is only a minor scratch line on the cylindars indicating little use of this gun. FFL required.
I also have for sale the Army Rifle Carry Bag used by this soldier. It is listed under "Gun Cases American" and under "Gun Cases Soft" for $100-.
