Howland, as did other long serving veteran soldiers, was recruited into the Veteran Volunteers near the end of the Civil War and for which he received a re-enlistment bonus and a highly prized Sharps Rifle and bayonet. Superb and with copies of the pertinent regimental histories and Howland’s National Archives records. Extra rare and with iron clad documentation.
