Sako Forester, .243 Win, All original, Excellent Plus Beautiful Rifle
Description: SOLD ** SAKO COLLECTORS:L579 Forester .243 Win., 23.5” barrel. Pre-Garcia, 1970 rifle, Excellent Plus, Receiver not drilled.Original butt plate, Serial Number 923XX Although Sako called these the Standard Grade as opposed to their Deluxe Grade, most gun lovers of the traditional design have always preferred the Standard Grade with its deep chocolate brown walnut and generous hand checkering, as opposed to the blonde honey colored Deluxe with its angled rosewood forend-tip fashioned to compete with the gaudy Weatherbys of the day. The features of the Standard Grade are reminiscent of the great Winchester Pre-64 Model 70 Standard Rifles, and entered the market about the time the classic M70 exited. And before 1972, the barrel channel wood to metal fit was Sako at their best. The underside of the barrel in front of the forend, shows in very fine print, Imported Firearms International, which is pre-Garcia when the action had 3 bolt locking lugs ( instead of the later 2). This particular specimen’s stock has the most preferred beautiful dark chocolate walnut with hand checkering. The Stock design is the Finnish stylized Monte Carlo comb with sculptured cheek piece, which is one of the most pleasant Monte Carlo designs ever conceived. The buttplate is original. The blue is the deep rich blue similar to Winchester’s Super Grade rust blue, preferred over the lavish high polish of the Deluxe. The hammer-rifled barrel is Bofors steel, but was no longer designated as such due to a trademark infringement. As to other metal work, Sako is famous for its double square bridge receiver finished with fine cross-hatching with integral dovetails for scope mounts; knurled bolt knob, and one-piece blued steel trigger guard with contoured sides, viewed from the muzzle. Try to find another maker with that detail. The front sight ramp is cross-hatched like the receiver bridges and houses a bead sight protected by sight hood. No rear sights were issued by the factory in anticipation of the user using either an aperture sight or scope mounted on the dovetails (Sako’s after-market aperture fit the dovetails). A set of original genuine Sako detachable rings of the same era come with the rifle. This rifle is 100% original, blue is 99%, wood finish shows a slight handling marks but would grade 97% and the checkering is 100% with no broken or missing or mashed diamonds and is very well executed as they did in 1970. This rifle was built 45 years ago in the era when the action was designated L579, the first commercial intermediate length bolt action—that in itself marks this rifle a place in history. The checkering on this rifle is flawless and the diamonds so sharp they still hurt your hand. This is the “best of the best” of Sako, whose actions were used in Browning Olympian Grade Safaris and Colt Coltsmans and even by English makers for their famous magazine rifles (see Westley Richards current inventory of Used Rifles, “John Rigby of London, Sako action”). I have fired this rifle and if I could hold it, it would shoot a ragged hole at 100 yards. You deserve to have a Sako in your gun room and this one is a great example, especially in this action length. Coming from the Roger Rule Collection (author of The Rifleman's Rifle); this rifle will be accompanied with a letter of provenance. Buyer pays $35.00 shipping, 3-day inspection privilege, FFL required. SOLD |
