Scarce Antique Remington M1896 Small Bore Military Rifle
Description: S# 813, 7mm S.M. (7X57) 30 inch barrel, good bore with strong rifling and dark grooves. These rifles were built from 1896 to mid 1897 with total production of about 1100. Most were sold to South American Dealers , making this model quite rare in America today. Features include three piece front sight, Edwards patent rear sight, side mounted extractor, narrow thumb piece, and long firing pin. Barrel wears a dark patina, bands are brown. receiver is grey with brown tangs. Wood is worn with many handling marks, forend is chipped on right by frame. Butstock is cracked behind top tang and shows added finish. Tang screw is a replacement. Forend cap does have the bayonet notch. A very hard to find rolling block variation for the advanced collector, these were the first smokeless powder rolling blocks built.
