Scarce Remington rolling block Kerchief
Description: This piece is a very scarce kerchief as commissioned by Remington Arms to promote their 1871 Remington rolling block rifle. This piece is mounted in a modern gilded wood frame, 36" X 32 " and is under glass. This was given by the factory to foreign countries that contracted for rolling block rifles. It is printed in black and red ink on white linen and has a diagram of the rifles action and its operation. This also has numerous battle scenes around the border of the central panel with extensive Spanish text. Because this variation has so much text compared to the others that concentrate on line diagrams, it is believed this was intended for officer's use rather than common infantrymen who tended to be illiterate. This is very uncommon and is in excellent condition with only a couple of minor stains. We believe that this promotional item as used by Remington originated in England where shooting scarves or kerchiefs had been used in association with militia and military shooting matches. A scarce piece for the Remington or rolling block collector. SOLD Manufacturer: Remington |
