Sharps New Model 1863
Description: The Sharps New Model 1863 is considered the most popular firearm of the Civil War. This is a solid example of one of the Civil War New Model 1863 Carbines that was converted by Sharps to fire the 50-70 Government center fire cartridge. The carbine with a serial number of 53241 has a brass front sight blade, original folding rear sight graduated to 800 yards and the percussion Lawrence pellet priming system. The top of the barrel is marked "NEW MODEL 1863" at the breech. The lock and left side of the frame are marked with the Sharps patent marking with the serial number on the upper tang. The stock and forearm have a smooth oil finish. The straight grip stock displays the "DFC" cartouche appropriately applied on the left center after Sharps' refurbishment and modification to center fire. Condition is Very Good. The barrel retains 70% of the original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a mottled gray patina retaining traces of original case colors in protected areas. The wood is in good condition with minor pressure dents and normal use scratches. Mechanically fine. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
