Third Reich Senior Forester's Cutlass by WKC
Description: This is the scarce, non-maker marked variation with boar's head counterguard and measures 14 1/4? overall with a 9 3/4? single-edged blade having full-length etched panel game scenes on both sides (boar hunting on the obverse, stag hunting on the reverse). The steel has an overall fairly bright original factory polish remaining but does exhibit a few minor scratches and blemishes at the tip and on the wide, unmarked ricasso. The hilt has retained most of the original gilt finish with only a small amount of wear along the edges and projections. The lobe-shaped grip has white celluloid panels with three acorn decorations on both sides and an oak leaf decorated knucklebow with single stag hoof quillon. The black leather sheath has gilt finishes throat and chape, both retaining most of the original gold finish, and the leather exhibits some mild scuffing but is otherwise in excellent shape. According to Johnson, although unmarked, this particular pattern can be identified to W.K.C. and this example is in simply excellent condition. {Ref. ?German Daggers of World War II ?
