12-30 Triplett & Scott Repeating Carbine
Description: Triplett and Scott Repeating Carbine. Made by Meriden Manufacturing Company, Meriden, Connecticut, c. 1864-1865. Total quantity estimated 5,000. 50 caliber rimfire. Seven-shot magazine tube in butt. Unusual loading action: depressing latch in frame behind hammer allows barrel to twist in circular motion to come in line with magazine protruding through butt. Made in two barrel lengths: 30” round barrel (3,000 estimated). Iron mountings with single barrel band for forend. Sling swivels on the underside as well as heel of butt. Barrel, sights and tubular socket blued with receiver and other parts case-hardened. Markings: On tang: “TRIPLETT & SCOTT/PATENT DEC. 6 1864”, on left side or receiver: “MERIDEN MAN’FG. CO./MERIDEN CONN.”, with serial number on right side. Marked: “KENTUCKY”, on left side of breech. A contract for 5,000 Triplett and Scott carbines was executed January 2, 1865, with the state of Kentucky to arm 5,000 Home Guard Troops. Condition: 80% of bright blue, 50% case colors, silvered out, excellent markings, bore has some of rifling with some corrosion. Overall Fine+ - Excellent. I take Visa/Mastercard, add 3%.
