U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Pistol by Simeon North
Description: NSN, .54 caliber, 9 1/16” barrel with a very good, lightly pitted bore. This is a handsome example of a Model 1816 that is still in the original flint and retains much of the browned finish on the barrel which has some moderate pitting in a tight area surrounding the touch-hole on the right side of the breech. The left breech has deeply struck “P/US” proofs and the “NORTH/U(eagle)S/MIDL.n CON.” marking is still crisp and clear on the lock. The lock, barrel band, sideplate, and trigger guard/gripstraps are all a fairly uniform dark plum-brown color with some scattered small spots of freckling scattered throughout, heaviest on the cock and frizzen. The brass pan has a general dark ochre-green patina with old verdigris throughout and there is some mild pinprick pitting on the trigger guard bow. The walnut stock is in fine shape with a visible but illegible cartouche on the left side and only minor handling marks in the added military oil finish. The pistol comes with a replacement wooden ramrod and the mechanism is tight and fully functional. This is a great example of an 1816 North pistol that is still in the original flint.
