U.S. Model 1868 Trapdoor Rifle
Description:
Serial #15311, .50-70, 32 1/2? barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves.
This rifle has an 1863 dated lockplate with the metal having a mixed gray/plum-brown patina overall that has some darker spots of freckling, mainly along the barrel and bands.
Hints of pinprick pitting from exposure to dust are present along the upper surfaces of both the barrel and breech assembly.
The serial numbers on the barrel and receiver are matching and the breech block lock-up is firm while the action is tight and functions flawlessly.
The walnut stock has a slightly shiny added varnish over lightly sanded wood and numerous minor surface marks and handling blemishes; the ?ESA? inspector cartouche is faint but still legible on the left side opposite the lock.
The rifle comes with a correct metal ramrod and is in very good plus-near fine condition overall.
