U.S. Model 1884 Trapdoor Rifle by Springfield Armory
Description:
Serial #498435, .45-70, 32 1/2” barrel with an excellent, bright bore.
This is an exceptionally nice rifle that has retained 98% plus of the original blue finish on the barrel, lock, and furniture.
The “1884” marked breechblock likewise retains nearly all of the original bright color case-hardening.
The walnut stock has a crisp “SWP/1889” cartouche on the left side of the wrist and there are some scattered small handling marks and small surface blemishes throughout the original military oil finish.
The mechanism is tight and functions flawlessly and the rifle comes with both an original ramrod and an original third type leather sling which has slightly dried leather that has crazed and flaked along the flex points but is still serviceable nevertheless.
This is a simply excellent example of a later production Trapdoor rifle that has retained an unusually high degree of original finish and would make a handsome addition to any collection.
