US Navy Marked Colt Conversion of the Model 1851 Navy
Description:
Serial #61754, .38 Long Colt, 7 1/2" octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some very mild freckling with the grooves.
This is a handsome Richards-Mason converted revolver that has matching numbers on the frame, triggerguard, and backstrap.
The metal has a smooth brown patina that carries over throughout the revolver with some fairly bright original color case-hardening still present on the loading gate, recoil shield loading groove, sides of the hammer, and some traces still visible along the sides of the frame.
Bright original fire blue is still present on the loading gate spring.
The barrel has the one-line New York address and is stamped, "R.W.M. (anchor)" along the bottom flat, and has a few minor peen marks on either side flanking the wedge.
The walnut grip has an added oil finish over scattered handling marks and minor blemishes on both sides and also exhibits some light wear around the butt.
The lock-up is tight as a drum and the action functions flawlessly.
This is a great looking Navy-Navy in fine plus-excellent condition and would make a splendid addition to any collection.
