WINCHESTER MODEL 70
- CAL. .300 SAVAGE
Description:
Winchester Model 70 Standard Rifle - Cal. .300 Savage - 24" barrel - SN72XXX (1946-1947). Absolutely perfect bore and action - metal is excellent with no rust, pits, or corrosion - barrel, receiver, trigger guard, bolt, and floorplate retain 99% --100% original blue - checkered steel buttplate has about 90% blue on the lower portion fading to about 80% on the upper part. Original sights - this rifle has the early post-war "transition" style safety. Wood is excellent overall with 98% finish and showing only a very few light surface scuffs and marks on the butt from normal handling - there is a very small and barely noticeable repaired chip at the rear of the opening for the bolt handle that does not detract at all from the overall appearance of the stock and cannot be seen when the bolt is closed. This caliber was never cataloged by Winchester and is thought by some experts to be the rarest caliber in the Model 70 and was available only as special order from about 1944 to the early 1950s - most were produced in 1946-1947 - apparently only a few hundred were ever manufactured. . A very rare, all original Winchester 70 that has seen virtually no use at all and in Excellent ++ condition and a great collectible.
