Winchester Model 1894 38-55 W.C.F. Button Magazine Rifle 1895 Production
Description:
This Winchester has the rare combination of a full octagonal twenty six inch barrel with a button magazine. The Winchester Book by George Madis confirms this rare combination of full octagonal barrels with button magazines. This rifle was made in 1895. It has the early style receiver with the inside curved spring bullet guide. The cartridge lifter also has the cut out relief for that spring. The tang sight is the correct Lyman tang sight with external spring. The rear sight is the correct Lyman's folding leaf sight for use with the early tang sights. The front sight is the unusual Lyman's hunting sight with ivory insert. The bore is sharp and clean with no pitting. There is strong color case on the button magazine cap. The hammer has clear faded color case. The lever has faded color case with protected areas showing stronger color case. The butt plate shows faded color case. The receiver blue is strong with no spotting. The bolt and under side also have strong blue. The barrel retains almost all of it's blue with a light plum tint. The stock and forend have no damage, cracks, chips or wood loss. The wood retains almost all of it's original varnish. This rifle shows very little use or carry. There are no alterations or add on's. Overall I would rate this rifle in 95% condition. This is an all correct early Winchester that has survived in fine condition! Keep in mind that one in every 725 rifles had non-standard magazines and that Seven out of every ten guns was a 30 W.C.F. This nice early rifle has the desirable 38-55 W.C.F. cartridge and the rare full octagonal barrel with button magazine as special features. This combination and rifle's condition should make any serious Winchester collector want to have in their collection! Search for Harry Viezens on google.
