Austrian Socket Bayonet Model 1799
Description:
This 22 inch bayonet features an 18 inch cruciform blade and 3 1/34 inch socket with no mortice.
This bayonet was used with the 1798 musket as well as the 1838 and early 1838/42 muskets, large quantities were imported by both North and South during the civil war.
This one remains in very good condition with areas of light pitting and staining.
Shank is stamped "V" and piece has no other markings.
These are shown and described on pages 77 to 80 or NOE and Serbaroli's European bayonets of the American Civil War.
