German Kar.98 Bayonet with Rare Breadbag Frog
Description:
This is a commercially marked bayonet that measures 15 1/4” overall, with a 10” blade having wide single fullers, and the ALCOSO “scales” trademark on the ricasso reverse.
The blade retains 95-95% of the original blue finish with some mild freckling at the ricasso, and some faint silvering at the tip and fuller borders.
The flash-guard equipped hilt has a commensurate amount of original blue remaining with some slightly heavier freckling at the pommel which has a smoothly functional press stud.
The grooved Bakelite grip scales are in excellent condition as well, and have only a few negligible handling marks.
The metal scabbard has about 90-95% of the original matte blue finish remaining with bright metal visible in the scratches along the sides.
The frog is a rare leather and canvas variant with brown pebbled leather collar fastened by reddish-brown stitching and two enameled rivets.
The fragile green canvas belt loop is in excellent condition with only some minor fraying of the cloth at the edges.
These cloth frogs are not very rugged, and tended to fall apart with use.
As a result, they are seldom seen today.
This is an excellent example and would make a great accessory for a postal or civil marked Kar.98.
