Mounted Tanto. This Tanto is ubu with one hole. Signed: Noshu Ju Kane Tomo. There were many smiths using the signature Kane Tomo working in Mino Province starting in the 1300’s until the late 1500’s. This would appear to be one working in the 1500’s. This Tanto features an irregular gonome Hamon with some Tobiaki and Itame Hada. The Nakago has sujikai yasurime with haagari tip. The Fuchi Kashira are shakudo ground with cloisonné blooming iris and are not signed. The menuki are coral and shibuichi. The Kurikata is also cloisonné with flowers and butterfly. The habaki is covered in silver foil. The saya is in excellent condition with crushed abalone in the lacquer. The kinko tsuba has a motif of cloisonné flowers and leaves and is unsigned. Cutting edge (Nagasa) is 11 1/16”.
