Description:
For sale absolutely stunning antique one piece carved Ivory Colt revolver grips. Taken off of an 1861 vintage Colt 1849 pocket model which was inscribed and presented to a Boston teacher upon his enlistment in the Union Army April 19th, 1861. These grips with an exquisetly carved, in high relief, Texas long horn steer replaced the factory one piece walnut grips, after the Civil War, when the soldier/teacher mustered out of the Union Army and "headed west".
The current owner of the Colt revolver, a Civil War historian and high grade collector, replaced the Ivory grips with the original walnut grips to restore the gun to it's Civil War era configuration.
The grips themselves are stunning, beautifully carved and wonderfully aged. 155 years of aging, color and patina result in a unique work of art.
