Antique Dutch Dragoon Flintlock Pistol
Description: Antique Dutch Dragoon Flintlock Pistol NAPOLEONIC WARS Delft Nederlandse Marked Here we present an antique Dutch Sea Service Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1800 in Liege. Today we know that Liege is a city in Belgium, perhaps most famous for its centuries of arms manufacture; but at this time, Belgium was not yet independent, and was a parcel of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands until recognized in 1839. This period in history was dominated by Napoleon Bonaparte and his wars of conquest. Interestingly, the Netherlands was a part of the French Empire from 1795 to 1813, and Napoleon renamed it the Batavian Republic, then the Kingdom of Holland, according to his purposes. During this time, the Dutch military fought alongside France against Napoleon’s many enemies. After Napoleon’s defeat in 1813, William I was restored to the head of the government, and in 1815 he declared himself king in the face of Napoleon’s return from Elba. William I’s son, the future King William II fought Napoleon at Waterloo. This pistol features a large .69 caliber bore, typical of a military small arm of the period. The pommel is a flat one with a lanyard ring. The lock is marked “Crown/DN” for Delft Nederlandse. Delft was a garrison town in the Netherlands, where a large arms storage facility was located, called the Armamentarium. According to Drs. Kees Kaldenbach, ‘In 1811 Napoleon toured the town of Delft, and upon seeing two highly decorated cannon by the Armamentarium, he said with a little wava of his hands: “C'est à moi”, - that's for me - and so they were immediately confiscated.’ The barrel is marked with a Liege proof. No provision for a ramrod was made as the user carried one secured to his belt. Overall condition is fine. The metal surfaces were finished bright and remain so. The markings are clear and legible. The walnut stock is glossy and solid aside from a crack on the right side. The bore is very good. The action is robust and strong. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 9 inches in length. Caliber: .69 Bore is in very good condition. The firing mechanism is excellent. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
