CLAN CRESTED Antique EURO Percus Clark Belt Pistol
Description: CLAN CRESTED Antique EURO Percus Clark Belt Pistol Crane & Crown, LONDON Marked with CAPTIVE Ramrod Here we present an antique English Clark Percussion Pistol, made circa 1840 in England. Belt-sized pistols like these were used to defend oneself when traveling or in public places. It was big enough to fight with, but not so large as to be cumbersome. They could be both as handsome or as plain as one desired or could afford. One of the most noticeable and interesting features of this 19th century British pistol is that it bears a family or clan crest stamped onto the silver initial placard. The mark is that of a long-legged bird standing inside or on top of a crown. Similar crests include those of the Cooke family, as well as Clan Lindsay. It is nicely engraved and marked “CLARK”, the maker, on the lock. The barrel is marked “LONDON” on top. The bottom of the barrel is proofed according to British law. The ramrod is captive to prevent fumbling while fighting or loss while traveling, a very handy feature. The smooth bore is quite large at .55 caliber. The overall condition is good. The metal parts appear to have been left in the white. The markings are clear and legible. The stock is in good condition after having been stabilized, with the varnish being quite complete. The bore is in good condition and the action is functional. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 5-3/4 inches in length. Caliber: .55 percussion The bore is in good condition and the firing mechanism is very good. Overall condition as seen in photos. Could this be your family’s crest? Very Fast. Very Safe.
