ENGLISH Antique STARR Turn-Barrel Boot Pistol 1840
Description: ENGLISH Antique STARR Turn-Barrel Boot Pistol 1840 Mid-19th Century British DEFENSIVE Carry Gun in 49 Here we present an antique Percussion Pistol, made circa the 1840s in Retford, England, a town in Nottinghamshire. This type of pistol was very popular from the 18th and into the 19th Centuries, in Europe, as well as the colonies. It could be stowed in the top of a boot, the belt, waistband or even a large pocket. It was of course, made primarily for self-defense, especially in cities or traveling around the countryside. This specimen is marked “STARR” on the left, most likely the maker, and “RETFORD”, the place of manufacture on the right. This pistol has a long, slim profile that would have made this a good-sized fighting pistol that was still relatively concealable. The frame and hammer are modestly engraved. The barrel turns off of the frame for loading. This was advantageous to the user as shoving a ball with a ramrod via the muzzle was quite difficult. Loading from the breech allowed a larger ball to be used, improving the gas seal and making this pistol more efficient. Crossed scepter British proof marks are on the bottom of the breech. The overall condition is very good plus. The metal is left in the white. The markings are clear and legible. The grip and bore are in fine condition. The action is excellent. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 3-1/2 inches in length. Caliber: .49 percussion The bore is in good condition and the firing mechanism is functional. Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail! Guaranteed AUTHENTIC & Includes CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. ancestryguns $850 #21737 SOLD Antique: Yes |
