ORNATE Inlaid & Silver Mounted Bunney of London Flintlock Pistol
Description: Ornate Antique Bunney of London Flintlock Pistol Beautifully Engraved and Inlaid w Grotesque Face Here we present an antique Bunney of London Flintlock Pistol, made circa 1770 in Birmingham, England. Joseph Bunney set up shop in about 1767, making fine flintlock weapons. His business lasted through the early decades of the 1800s, about 1814. It is of interest to note that Joseph Bunney, in addition to being a well-known gun maker, also had his silver hallmark registered with the Birmingham Assay Office in 1773. This fine flintlock features fancy engraving on the gun’s frame. The left side of the frame is marked “BUNNEY” in a banner, and the right side is marked “LONDON”. A Birmingham proof mark is on the right side of the frame, just behind the barrel. The pommel cap is a silver grotesque face with hallmarks identifying this piece as sterling silver (lion) with an origin in Birmingham (anchor). There is another mark on the inside of the mouth of the mask. Finally, and perhaps most obviously, the stock is profusely inlaid with silver wire in a floral pattern, completing this practical piece of art. The overall condition is very good. This was once a double barreled pistol, but the lower barrel has been removed for some reason, then expertly repaired. The frame and barrel have a pleasing dark patina. The silver pommel is complete with a small amount of practical wear. 90% of the silver wire inlay remains. Markings on the frame are crisp and clear. The bore is smooth, with false rifling at the muzzle, and it is in very good condition. The action is very good. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. No other examples found for sale worldwide! Barrel is 4-1/4 inches in length. Caliber: .44 The bore is in very good condition and the firing mechanism is fine. Overall condition as seen in photos. Here is a stunning representation of 18th century English craftsmanship and artistry. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
