#1525 Harpers Ferry Model 1805 Flintlock military pistol
Description: #1525 Harpers Ferry Model 1805 Flintlock military pistol, dated 1807, smoothbore 54caliber. This model was just the second U.S. military handgun produced, and the first pistol that was produced by the new Harpers Ferry national armory …and thus becoming the design that was to be used on all later U.S. models (the North & Cheny Model 1799 being almost an exact copy of the French 1877 and not made by our new national armory). With only a little over 4000 total production made (2500+ being dated in 1807), a collector just being able to have one in ANY collection is a great rarity. This very desirable and extremely rare pistol is in Fine to Fine+ condition with very fine metal and fine wood ….the most serious flaw being that some soldier incised some “IXI” design over the cartouche area, and yet good traces of the cartouche still remain intact. The barrel is serialized as is correct, with “211” and thus this pistol, along with its paired (also with the same serial number) pistol, were only the 211th in production. Considering the age and the severe attrition rate of military weapons, it then becomes HIGHLY likely that this very, VERY desirable 208 year old military pistol is almost certain to be one of the very best examples still in existence and therefore is a super value at this price. For even the most advanced martial collector of U.S. firearms, this probably will be a “once-in-a-lifetime chance” to obtain this nice of a specimen. About Fine+ overall. $13,950 SOLD Antique: Yes |
