Austalian Built British Tower Flintlock Pistol Musket Composit Gun
Description: With the barrel of a British Tower pistol mounted on the cut-down stock of a Tower musket, everything about this piece is strange, & large. When Australia was a prison coloney, guns were of course forbidden. Under ground gunsmiths made what they could with spare parts. One of my research budys thinks this one was probably built by a man named Ottoman between 1820 & 1839. With a 75 caliber 10 1/2" round steel barrel, you could get away with calling it a blunderbuss. That' my Colt bore guage un the muzzle with only the last #, 80 showing. On the flip side, if it were a shot gun, it's about an 11 guage. I don't know long guns, so I guees this may be commom for a musket lock, but it's the only lock I've seen with s built in safety. It won't go off half cocked. The word Tower is in the usual place on the lock plate, but no crown over GR. The stock of course looks like no other pistol stock, because it didn't used to be. But it all fits quite nicely. The ramrod is a replacment. Unfinnished, tapered hickery with brass tip. Pipe fits perfect size eammer very nicely. As large as this pistol looks &feels, at 2 LBs 9 oz it's not overly heavy at all. Overall length is 18 1/2" I will concider offers, but I like this piece, it grows on ya. SOLD Antique: Yes |
